Making her first collegiate start, Nevada freshman pitcher Julia Jensen gave up only one run on four hits in seven innings of work as the Wolfpack defeat LA Tech 5-1 for the second time in two days at the PV College Challenge.
While Jensen was solid from the circle, the Wolfpack did just enough on the offensive side to secure the win.
Freshman Jessica Sellers singled for Nevada and next batter Kenzi Goins hit a bomb over the centerfield fence to give the Wolfpack a quick 2-0 advantage in the first. A Mele Tausinga walk and an RBI double by Alysaa Mendez would tack on one more run for Nevada and a 3-0 lead after one inning.
The Wolfpack would add another run in the second off a Jessica Sellers sac fly scoring Rheanna Smith and putting Nevada up 4-0.
LA Tech would get on the board in the 4th off a Karlee Jensen RBI single knocking in Marilyn Rizzato. Rizzato reached base on a line-drive triple which scooted past diving Wolfpack leftfielder Sadaria McCalister.
A single by Goins and a Mendez hit-by-pitch with two outs would move a runner in scoring position. An RBI single by Sierra Mello would score Goins increasing the Wolfpack lead to 5-1 after five innings.
Jensen would finish with seven strikeouts and didn't allow a Lady Techster hit after the 4th inning.
