Freshman Hannah George hit a three-run homer, the first of her career for the Tar Heels, and Brittany Pickett pitched a five-hit shutout to close North Carolina's run at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with a win over No. 9 South Carolina.

UNC (3-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Kiani Ramsey, which brought in Leah Murray. Pickett, who led the nation in innings pitched last year with 299 2/3, walked one and struck out six.

The Gamecocks finished their time at the event with a 3-2 record. South Carolina's push to rally in the sixth put runners on second and third with one out, but UNC held. The game ended in the bottom of the seventh with a double play.
