DUKE 7, NOTRE DAME 3
In an early-season ACC battle, Duke (1-0) and Notre Dame (0-1) went toe-to-toe on Thursday evening. Trailing 3-2 entering the sixth inning, the Blue Devils came through with five big runs to beat the Irish 7-3.
Duke’s All-ACC preseason team member Raine Wilson came out swinging in Puerto Vallarta. Wilson’s triple in the bottom half of the first gave the Blue Devils the early lead, 2-0, over the Irish.
Notre Dame’s offense got going in the top of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Emma Clark dialed up a two-RBI single to tie the game up at two until Melissa Rochford pushed the Irish ahead, 3-2, with an RBI in the top of the fifth.
The Blue Devils' big sixth inning began with Brianna Butler, who delivered a two-RBI single in the sixth. Dominique Solinas and Kristina Foreman each added RBI to extend Duke’s lead, 7-3.
In the final frame, Amelia Wiercioch needed just four pitches to shut down the Irish for Duke’s first win of the season.
