No. 2 Auburn wrapped up an excellent trip at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with a five-hit shutout of BYU authored by sophomore starter Makayla Martin.
The Tigers (3-1) only needed one productive inning on offense, and they got it in the bottom of the fourth inning. KK Crocker drove in the first run with a one-out single, and Carlee Wallace came through with a two-run, two-out single for the final runs of the game.
Auburn pulled off the win despite getting just three hits off BYU starter Arissa Paulson, and the Tigers also made two errors in the infield.
The Cougars (2-2) looked ready for a comeback in the top of the seventh as Caitlyn Alldredge double to right field to start the inning. After a groundout, Allie Hancock reached on an error, and Rylee Jensen came up with runners on first and third with two outs. She smoked a grounder to Auburn All-American Kasey Cooper, who made a terrific grab and strong throw for the final out.
