South Carolina finished Day 1 of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with a 1-1 record, but the Gamecocks jumped right back in to the win column on Day 2 with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Duke.
After scoring on a throwing error, South Carolina added a second run in the third inning on a Kennedy Clark RBI double.
Caroline Jacobsen kickstarted Duke’s offense with an RBI in the fourth inning that scored Jameson Kavel. Kavel would end her evening with two hits and two runs scored for the Blue Devils.
In the top of the sixth inning, Haley Simpson added some insurance for the Gamecocks, delivering an RBI single that scored Lauren Stewart.
Raine Wilson wasn’t about to let the Gamecocks (2-1) off the hook just yet. Wilson’s triple in the bottom of the sixth scored Kavel and brought the Blue Devils (1-1) within one, 3-2.
Despite allowing the lead-off runner aboard, Cayla Drotar finished off the Duke in the final frame to secure South Carolina’s second win of the season.
Starting pitcher Kelsey Oh pitched five and two thirds innings for the Gamecocks, striking out five and allowing just two earned runs.
