PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - South Carolina scored 11 runs in the fourth inning as the #20 Gamecocks beat UC San Diego 18-1 in a five inning run rule game in the final game of the day at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Reganne Bennett (2-0) was 3 for 4 with a pair of homers and three RBI’s while picking up the win in the circle as she went the distance and allowed three hits and an unearned run while walking two and striking out four.
Riley Blampied was 3 for 3 with three RBI’s and three runs scored to lead the 15 hit attack for South Carolina. Aniyah Black had two hits and also drove in three.
Blampied had a two-run single and an RBI single in the fourth as South Carolina scored 11 times in the inning to blow the game open.
Zoe Laneaux and Denver Bryant added RBI singles while Jen Cummings had a two-run single in the fourth for the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks improve to 8-1 on the season in its final game in Mexico while UC San Diego drops to 1-6.
South Carolina went 3-1 at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge and had Black and Sage Mardjetko named to the All-tournament session 2 team.
Black’s two-run double in the first gave the Gamecocks the early 2-0 lead before Marissa Gonzalez added an RBI groundout pushing the lead to 3-0.
Reganne Bennett hit a moon shot to deep left to lead off the second. Black would add an RBI single later in the inning to make it 5-0.
The Tritons got on the board in the third when Morgan Eng was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and scored on an error.
