PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Kianna Jones hit a two-run homer to highlight a three-run third and #20 South Carolina beat UC Davis 6-4 in eight innings at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
The Gamecocks improve to 7-1 on the season while UC Davis drops to 2-4 on the season.
South Carolina scored twice in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Marissa Gonzalez before Giulia Desiderio was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded pushing the lead to 6-4.
Sage Mardjetko (3-1) allowed just two hits and struck out four over the final four innings to get the win in relief for the Gamecocks.
South Carolina took the lead in the second on a double steal as Karley Shelton stole home, for the 1-0 lead.
The Aggies tied the game in the third on an RBI single by Grace Kilday.
Jones’ two-run homer off the racing right fielders glove sparked a three-run third while Riley Blampied also had an RBI single in the inning as South Carolina took a 4-1 lead.
The Aggies scored three times in the fifth to pull even as they scored a run on an error. Sydney Polli stole home as part of a double steal and Leah Polson’s RBI groundout tied the game 4-4.Blampied had two hits for the Gamecocks while Kilday had two hits for UC Davis.
