PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Katie Kutz and Ruby Meylan combined on a three-hit shutout leading #4 Oklahoma State to an 8-0 six inning win over Northern Colorado at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Kutz (1-0) went 4.3 innings scoreless innings and allowed just three hits, walked three and struck out four to get the win. Ruby Meylan retired all five batters she faced with three strikeouts in relief.
Megan Delgadillo was 4 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases and Karli Godwin was 2 for 2 with three RBI’s. Tia Warsop and Tallen Edwards each added a pair of hits for the Cowgirls to lead the 14 hit attack.
Northern Colorado loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first, but Katie Kutz got the next three batters to keep the Bears off the scoreboard.
Oklahoma State (2-1) got on the board in the home half of the first as Delgadillo and Warsop both reached with bunt singles and on a double steal, Delgadillo scored on a throwing error for the 1-0 lead.
The Cowgirls started the third with three straight bunt singles by Megan Bloodworth, Delgadillo and Warsop before Godwin later delivered a two-run single for a 3-0 lead.
Edwards led off the fourth with a double and came around on an RBI infield single by Delgadillo pushing the lead to 4-0.
Edwards’ RBI single in the fifth made it 5-0 before a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Rachael Halhoot gave OSU a 6-0 lead.
Godwin drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth before Claire TImm’s RBI single ended the game.
