PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Ruby Mehlan went five innings and allowed two runs and struck out nine to pick up the win in her Oklahoma State debut leading the #4 Cowgirls to a 9-6 win over #9 Florida State In a top ten matchup to open the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Oklahoma State leadoff hitter Megan Dalgadillo was 3 for 4 with a double and three stolen bases to lead the Cowgirl offense which totaled 11 hits including three homers in the win.
The Cowgirls scored twice in the home half of the first as Delgadillo led off with a double and later scored on an error giving OSU a 1-0 lead. Micaela Wark’s RBI single pushed the lead to 2-0.
Tallen Edwards hit a solo homer in the second to give the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead.
The Seminoles got on the board on a solo homer to left by Jaysoni Beachum in the third to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Delgadillo’s RBI single, her third hit of the game, in the fourth extended the lead to 4-1.
The Noles got one run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Annabelle Widra making the score 4-2.
Oklahoma State added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth as Wark blasted a solo homer to right and Edwards drove in a run with a safety squeeze for a 6-2 lead.
Amanda Hasler hit a solo homer in the sixth to highlight a three-run sixth as the Cowgirls took a 9-2 lead.
FSU did not to quietly as Kennedy Harp and Beachum each hit two-run homers in the top of the seventh to close the scoring.
Wark had two hits with a homer and two RBI’s while Rachael Hathoot added a pair of doubles and drove in a run for Oklahoma State.
Beachum had a pair homers and drove in three while Harp and Isa Torres each had two hits for Florida State, which finished with seven hits.
