PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Rylie Boone’s RBI single in the top of the eighth lifted three-time defending national champion and #1 Oklahoma to a thrilling 4-3 win over #7 Washington in a top ten matchup at the Puerto Vallarta Challenge in front of a capacity crowd at Nancy Almaraz Stadium.
Kasidi Pickering was the runner placed on second for the international tiebreaker to start the eighth, she moved to third on a ground out, and scored on the single by Boone for a 4-3 lead.
Jaydyn Glab started the home half as the runner on second, went to third on a ground out, but was stranded.
Kelly Maxwell (2-0) picked up the win in relief as she threw 2 ? scoreless innings, walked one and fanned two.
Ruby Meylan (1-1) was the tough luck loser as she pitched the final five innings for Washington (2-1) and allowed just on earned run on three hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Kinzie Hansen and Kasidi Pickering delivered back-to-back two-out RBI singles in the top of the first as the Sooners left the bases loaded, but took a 2-0 lead.
Washington had a little two-out magic of its own in the second as they got on the board on a single by Brooklyn Carter which scored Avery Hobson on an obstruction call at the plate. Jillian Celis followed with a two-run single-run for a 3-2 lead. All three runs were unearned as the obstruction call should have been the third out.
The Huskies held the lead until the top of the sixth when Sooner pinch hitter Riley Ludlam tied the game with a one-out RBI single.
Washington looked to take the lead in the sixth, but pinch runner Jing Gardner, who ran on contact, was thrown out at the plate on a comebacker to Kelly Maxwell.Oklahoma added to its NCAA Division I record winning streak to 56 straight and tied the NCAA All-Division’s record with the win tonight.
