BYU Knocks Off North Dakota State to Start Session 2

February 12, 2025

BYU 3, NORTH DAKOTA STATE 2

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - BYU’s pitching staff, led by Kate Dahle’s five innings of work, was enough to hold off North Dakota State in the Session 2 opener in Puerto Vallarta.

The Cougars did all their damage in the second inning, starting with a Tristen Turlington double to left-center scoring Amiya Hernandez. Turlington scored shortly after on a Maddi Udall-Woolley hit to right. Aleia Agbayani completed the scoring with a triple scorched into right-center.

North Dakota State stranded a pair of runners in scoring position and BYU left the bases loaded in the third inning.

The Bison got on the board in the fifth from a Bella Dean RBI groundout to the shortstop, scoring Lileigh Nieto.

Dahle’s day came to an end after five solid innings of work, holding North Dakota State to the single run, three hits, two walks, while striking out three. Dahle would go on to earn the win.

Villegas and Korth would come in relief giving up no earned runs.

NDSU made it interesting in the top half of the seventh, scoring an unearned run from a Bella Dean sacrifice fly to center field.

The Bison had the bases loaded with two outs in the last, but Korth shut the door on the comeback attempt with a 1-3 groundout finishing it off.

Both teams are back in action Thursday afternoon.
