Cagle Fires Shutout Leading #8 Clemson Past Shockers

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Valerie Cagle threw a shutout and scattered seven hits while hitting one of three Tiger home runs leading #8 Clemson to a 7-0 win over Wichita State to open the second session of the Puerto Vallarta Challenge at Nancy Almaraz Stadium.

Julia Knowler doubled, homered and drove in four while Alex Brown added two hits for Clemson which improved to 5-1 on the season.

Cagle (2-0) allowed seven singles while walking one and fanning five to get the win. She homered to right center in the top of the first to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Knowler’s two-run double in the third pushed the Clemson lead to 3-0 before she added a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.

McKenzie Clark added a two-run homer in the sixth for a 7-0 lead.

CC Wong and Sami Hood each had two hits for Wichita State, which dropped to 2-1.
