PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Claire Davidson was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a grand slam while scoring three runs and driving in six leading #11 Duke to a 16-3 five inning run rule win over Iowa State in the opening game of the day at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Kelly Torres was 3 for 4 and drove in a run while D’Auna Jennings and Jada Baker each had two hits and scored three runs for Duke.
Aminah Vega added two hits and drove in two for the Blue Devils, who scored in every inning and finished with 16 hits in the win.
Angelina Allen and Tatum Johnson each had two hits for Iowa State.
Gisele Tapia and Kelly Torres had RBI singles in the top of the first to give Duke an early 2-0 lead.
Duke added five more runs in the second as Ana Gold had a two-run single, Davidson followed with a two-run double before an RBI single by Aminah Vega as the Blue Devils took a 7-0 lead.
Ashley Minor blasted a two-run homer to center in the second to get the Cyclones on the board.
Davidson’s grand slam highlighted a five-run third as Duke extended the lead to 12-2.
Minor added a sacrifice fly in the third for Iowa State making the score 12-3.
Amiah Burgess hit a solo homer to right in her first collegiate at bat in the fourth and Tapia added an RBI ground out for a 14-3 lead.Sophie Garner-MacKinnon got the win in relief as she pitched the final 2 ? innings and allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two.
