PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Grace Kilday’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave UC Davis a walkoff 2-1 win over Mississippi State in the opening game of the final day at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Sarah Nakahara led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and was moved to third on a bunt before Kilday’s game winning hit.
UC Davis improves to 3-4 overall while the Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season and are now 8-1.
Kenedi Brown (1-1) went the distance scattered eight hits and allowed one run while walking four and fanning six to get the win.
Matalasi Faapito (1-1) also threw a complete game and allowed just four hits, one earned run and walked one and struck out seven in taking the loss.
Brown and Kilday were named to the session 2 All-tournament team from UC Davis.
Jessie Blaine and Aspen Wesley earned session 2 All-tournament honors for the Bulldogs.
Paige Cook and Kylee Edwards had two hits each for the Bulldogs.
The Aggies struck first with a run in the bottom of first on an RBI groundout by Leah Polson, an unearned run.
Mississippi State tied it in the third on when Nadia Barbary scored on a fielder’s choice by Aquana Brownlee.
