Lech's Two Home Runs Drive #24 Auburn Past UC Davis

February 15, 2024

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – Amelia Lech hit two home runs and drove in all six runs for Auburn in a 6-3 victory over UC Davis in the first of the Tigers’ two games Thursday at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

Auburn (3-1-1) jumped ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-out grand slam off the bat of junior Lech, a Maryland transfer who hit 16 home runs last season.

Things stayed quiet until the top of the sixth when the Aggies (2-3) got on the board as Anna Dethlefson tripled to lead off and scored on a single by Libbie McMahan. McMahan made it to third after a wild pitch and hit, then scored on a single from Sarah Starks to cut the Auburn lead to 4-2 – Leah Polson scored on a double steal as the margin tightened to 4-3.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Wohlers walked and Lech followed with a home run to rebuild the lead to 6-3.

Annabelle Widra allowed three hits in her first inning of relief for Auburn, but in the seventh she locked it in for the save, allowing only a double to Dethlefson along with two strikeouts.
