PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Amailee Morales hit a pair of homers and drove in three leading Northern Colorado to an 8-4 win over Louisiana Tech at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Morales and Ella Gonzales were named to the PV College Challenge All-tournament team for Northern Colorado, which improved to 1-3.
Northern Colorado batted around in the first jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead.
Morales homered to lead off the home half of the first before Ella Gonzales added a towering two-run homer as the Bears jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead. Krista Francia laced a two-run double as the Bears extended the lead to 5-0.
Karolyn Glover and Alexis Gilio each had RBI singles in the second as LA Tech cut the deficit to 5-2.
Morales would add a two-run blast to center in the fourth giving Northern Colorado a 7-2 lead.
The Bulldogs started the sixth with three straight singles. Allie Furr drew a bases loaded walk and Gilio added a sacrifice fly to make it 7-4. Elena Heng lined into a double play with the bases loaded to end the inning.
UNC got one back in the home half of the sixth as Katie Thompson reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch for an 8-4 lead.
Morales, Sabrina Javorsky and Quinn Myers-Lenz each had two hits for the Bears.
Karolyn Glover and Claire Raley each had two hits for LA Tech (2-2).
Isabelle DiNapoli (1-1) went the distance in the circle to get the win. She allowed 10 hits and four runs while walking four and striking out one.
