Penta Throws Shutout Leading #25 Auburn Past #13 Utah 1-0

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Makayla Packer drew a bases loaded walk with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh to break a scoreless tie as #25 Auburn beat #13 Utah 1-0 in a battle of Top 25 teams at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

The Tigers improve to 4-1-1 on the season while Utah drops to 4-3.

Auburn’s Maddie Penta and Utah’s Mariah Lopez were involved in a pitcher’s duel as the two matched zeros for six innings as the teams combined for 12 hits, all singles through six innings. There were 14 hits in the game, all singles.

Penta (2-1) went seven innings and scattered six hits while walking two and striking out five to get the win.

Lopez (2-2) was the tough luck losing pitcher. She went 6 2/3 and allowed eight hits, the one earned run while walking seven and striking out eight.

KK McCrary walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh, Anna Wohlers singled and Ameila Lech walked to load the bases with one out before Packer worked the two out walk to win the game.

McCrary had two hits for Auburn.Karlie Davidson and Shelbi Ortiz each had two hits for the Utes.
