PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Freshman Sidne Peters pitched four hitless innings and struck out six to get the win in relief in her collegiate debut leading #7 Washington to a 4-3 win over Utah Valley in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
The rookie retired the first 11 batters she faced before issuing a two-out walk in the seventh.
Peters came on in relief to start the fourth with the Huskies leading 4-3 and was allowed just the one walk over the final four innings of work.
Brooklyn Carter was 3 for 4 with two runs scored while Rylee Holtorf added a pair of hits for Washington.
Both teams got things going early exchanging three run innings in the first.
Ry Binne led off the game with a single later scored on a wild pitch and the Wolverines added a run on an error before Rachael Brown delivered an RBI single for a 3-0 lead for Utah Valley.
The Huskies quickly answered on an RBI double by Holtorf before Jadyn Glab tied the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the first.
Washington scored the eventual game winner as Carter singled, stole second and scored on a throw after a Holtorf single for a 4-3 lead.
