PUERTO VALLARTA, Mex. - Cal State Fullerton took advantage of some timely hits and a couple of defensive miscues to defeat Liberty 7-0 in the finale of the 2023 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge at Nancy Almaraz Stadium.
The Titans (6-4) scored three in the second to take a stranglehold of the game. Alexa Neil's single with two runners on skittered by the Liberty outfield and to the fence in left center, plating both runners for the first two runs. Two batters later, Daisy Munoz sent a grounder through the left side that scored Neil for the third run of the inning.
A four-run third essentially put the game away for Cal State Fullerton. Anaiya Mitchell's single brought home a run, with Mitchell taking second base on a fielding error on the play. After an infield hit by Neil put runners on the corners, Hannah Becera's single made it a 5-0 game. Munoz would then double home both runners to make it 7-0.
Liberty (1-9) struggled to get going offensively as the Flames were held to just three hits by a trio of Titans pitchers.
Rachel Crane and Devyn Howard each earned All-Tournament honors from Liberty, with Megan Delgadillo and Mika Sutherlin earning All-Tournament recognition from Cal State Fullerton.
