PUERTO VALLARTA, Mex. - Kasey Hamilton pitched another gem at Nancy Almaraz Stadium and got all the offensive help she would need from Savanna DesRochers' two-run homer in the second as Kansas topped Ole Miss 2-1 to close out night play in 2023 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
Hamilton was occasionally in trouble, but for six innings got out of it, stranding eight Rebels on base. She allowed eight hits and walked three, but struck out eight as well over 6.2 innings of work.
With runners on the corners and two out in the seventh, Hamilton was lifted for Lizzy Ludwig. In possibly the most pressure-packed situation for the freshman so far in her young career, Ludwig would uncork a wild pitch that brought home Savana Sikes and put a runner in scoring position. The young pitcher was undaunted, getting a weak ground out to first to close out the contest.
Hamilton and Lyric Moore were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances for the Jayhawks. Ole Miss saw Aynslie Furbush, Jalia Lassiter, Mya Stevenson, and Sikes get All-Tournament recognition for their play over their two session stay in Mexico.
