PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Oklahoma hit three home runs as the three-time defending national champion Sooners opened the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge at Nancy Almaraz Stadium with a 13-0 run rule win over Utah Valley in the season opener for both teams.
The top ranked Sooners struck quickly as Kasidi Pickering hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first in her first collegiate at bat giving Oklahoma a 4-0 lead. The Sooners drew three walks before the blast to left center.
Ella Parker added a two-run single in the second and came around on a throwing error to give Oklahoma a 7-0 lead. It was her first career hit after walking in the first inning. Alyssa Brito and Kinzie Hansen followed with back-to-back homers to make the score 9-0.
Jayda Coleman ripped a two-run double down the right field line in the third to highlight a four-run third making the score 13-0 after three.
Nicole May allowed just one hit over the first three innings while striking out two and not walking a batter to get the win for OU.
