NIAGARA 91, LE MOYNE 86
LEWISTON, NY – Angel Parker scored 23 points and hit five free throws in the final 19 seconds to guide Niagara past Le Moyne in Round 1 of the 2024 Postseason WNIT.
Niagara (21-13) will play at Vermont in Round 2 – that game is set for tipoff at 6 p.m. ET on Monday, March 25.
With 19 seconds left, Le Moyne got a 3-pointer from Sierra Linnin to fall, cutting the Purple Eagles lead to 86-84. Parker closed the deal with her clutch work from the line, with Niagara also benefitting all night with its swarming defense that forced 26 turnovers.
Aaliyah Parker scored 19 points; Amelia Strong and Destiny Strother each added 17 points. Strong and Saige Glover each had 10 rebounds.
Niagara scored eight points in fewer than 90 seconds to start the game and had a 12-0 lead before Le Moyne pushed back; the score stood at 22-21 for the Purple Eagles after one quarter. The Dolphins also scored the first seven points of the second quarter, with Niagara holding a slim 34-32 lead at the break.
The Dolphins (18-14), in their first year of reclassifying as a D-I program, got career-high scoring efforts from Sydney Lusher and Linnin, who both tallied 22 points. Lytoya Baker added 15 points to go with 10 rebounds.
NORTH CAROLINA A&T 56, UNC GREENSBORO 51
GREENSBORO, NC – Jordyn Dorsey scored six straight points in the latter stages of the fourth quarter for North Carolina A&T, and the Aggies held on to topple UNC Greensboro in a Round 1 games Friday of the 2024 Postseason WNIT.
The Aggies (21-11) will host Old Dominion in Round 2 – that game is set for tipoff at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 24.
North Carolina A&T used a 6-0 run to take a 50-45 lead with 3:55 to go, a push capped by two free throws from Dorsey. She made two more at the 2:38 mark, and after Khalis Cain’s layup pulled UNC Greensboro to 52-51, Dorsey made a layup at :39 as well. The Spartans then missed four shots in the final 26 seconds.
Paris Locke had 10 points for the Aggies, who had a 27-9 edge in made free throws and were down only nine points at halftime despite shooting 24 percent (5-for-21).
The Spartans (21-12) got 10 points apiece by Nia Howard and Isys Grady. Cain added 14 rebounds. Neither team did much damage from the 3-point line as North Carolina A&T was 1-for-11 and UNC Greensboro went 2-for-13.
SOUTH DAKOTA 72, UC RIVERSIDE 57
VERMILLION, SD – South Dakota built a modest lead through three quarters and then lowered the boom in the final 10 minutes, scoring 25 points in the frame on the way to topping UC Riverside in Round 1 of the Postseason WNIT.
The Coyotes (22-12) will host Northern Arizona in Round 2 – that game is set for tipoff at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 26.
Carley Duffney had 15 points for South Dakota; Morgan Hansen added 12 points and Natalie Mazurek scored 10 points. Grace Larkis came through with 11 rebounds as the Coyotes closed with a 52-28 edge on the boards.
The Highlanders (18-14) got 19 points from Jordan Webster and 17 points from Matehya Bryant.
