LOUISIANA MONROE 84, SOUTHERN MISS 71
MONROE, LA – Louisiana Monroe advanced to the Great 8 of the 2024 Postseason WNIT with an 84-71 victory over Southern Miss in the Super 16 on Wednesday night.
ULM was led by Jakayla Johnson, who racked up 31 points, five rebounds and five assists on 11-of-19 shooting, while Katlyn Manuel added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds..
The Warhawks were lights out defensively to open the game, holding Southern Miss to just 3-of-24 shooting at the start. In total, Southern Miss was held to just 8-of-32 shooting in the first half and 0-of-6 from 3-point range, which allowed Louisiana Monroe to build a 10-point lead heading into the break.
Southern Miss found its offensive rhythm in the second half, scoring 46 points on 57.1 percent shooting from the field, but ULM matched them, scoring 49 points on 56.7 percent shooting. The Warhawks pushed the lead to as much as 18 points in the 4th quarter, but Southern Miss answered with a run of its own midway through the quarter to get the deficit back down to 10 points with 3:35 left in the game.
ULM awaits the winner of Troy and North Carolina A&T in the Great 8.
