PURDUE 71, DUQUESNE 50

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Defensive determination by Purdue held Duquesne to 28 percent shooting from the field (including 5-for-26 from 3-point range) and helped boost the Boilermakers past the Dukes on Thursday during Super 16 play in the 2024 Postseason WNIT.

The Boilermakers (15-18) will face Colgate or Vermont in the Great 8 early next week.

Purdue went five minutes without scoring in the first quarter but fought back to tie it at 11-all after 10 minutes. From then on the Boilermakers were in charge, building their lead with a 9-0 run early in the fourth quarter and, overall, finishing with a 44-39 edge in rebounds and forcing 17 turnovers.

Abbey Ellis and Jayla Smith each scored 15 points for Purdue. Sophie Swanson scored 14 points, Mary Ashley Stevenson added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Jeanae Terry closed with 11 rebounds.

The Dukes (21-13) got a season-high 19 points from Jerni Kiaku, and Megan McConnell added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

WISCONSIN 86, ILLINOIS STATE 61

MADISON, WI – Wisconsin had a terrific night shooting in front of its home crowd, converting 52 percent of shots from the field Thursday as the Badgers rolled past Illinois State and into the Great 8 round of the 2024 Postseason WNIT.

The Badgers (15-16) will face Purdue Fort Wayne or Saint Louis early next week.

Wisconsin closed with a 9-3 lead in made 3-pointers and outrebounded Illinois State, 38-32. Sania Copeland and Serah Williams each scored 18 points; Ronnie Porter closed with 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Natalie Leuzinger added 12 points. D’Yanis Jiminez finished with 10 points.

The Redbirds (22-12) saw DeAnna Wilson close the year with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Shannon Dowell scored 17 points.
