Q: Where is the Cancun Challenge held?

A: The Cancun Challenge is held at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya location, NOT the Hard Rock Cancun. Riviera Maya location is about an hour away from the Cancun Airport. Hard Rock Riviera Maya is a private gated hotel, so anyone who stays at another property will have additional costs to consider in planning. Contact Sarah Sullivan directly for more details: 970-672-0533.

Q: What is the date range of the package deal?

A: Our package deal is flexible to the date range you desire to stay; minimum of 4 nights.

Q: Is transportation included?

A: Yes - once you arrange your flights, you will email Sarah (sarah@triplecrownsports.com) your flight itinerary, and we will schedule your transportation. The transportation will be waiting upon your arrival at Cancun International Airport. Once you are ready to leave the Hard Rock hotel, there is a transportation service desk near our game arena. Before your departure date, you will check in with them to confirm a time to meet in the lobby for your departure to the airport.

Q: How far is the resort from the airport?

A: The resort is about an hour away from the Cancun International Airport. Our transportation service is a one stop service, so the travel does go by smoothly, depending on traffic at the time.

Q: Can we request multiple rooms to be assigned next to one another?

A: Yes, we can make special requests, however each request is NOT guaranteed based on resort availability.

Q: What do I need to do to make my reservation?

A: Call Sarah (970-672-0533) directly with your information; credit card payment is required.

Q: Do I have to pay in full at the time of making my reservation?

A: It depends when you make the reservation. We can be flexible with payments. Call us for details.

Q: Where are the basketball games played?

A: All basketball games are played in the Convention Center onsite at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, just a few minutes' walk from your room. We transform a ballroom into a basketball arena with bleacher seating.

Q: When is the team banquet?

A: The banquet for men's teams and fans is Monday, the night before the men's games begin on Tuesday. The banquet for the women's teams and fans is Wednesday, the night before the women's games begin on Thursday. Cocktails are at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m., and an entertainment piece to follow. Dress is casual to dressy.

Q: What if I have questions regarding the event when I arrive?

A: We recommend finding a Triple Crown representative onsite. Triple Crown representatives will be wearing shirts with a TCS logo on the upper left corner. We typically can be located in the Convention Center where the basketball games are played.

Q: Do I need to exchange money to use in Mexico?

A: There is usually no need to change dollars into pesos for this trip. Everything you may purchase (in the hotel gift shop, tours, souvenirs in downtown Playa del Carmen, food at the Cancun airport, etc.) can be paid using American dollars or a credit card.

Q: How does check-in / check-out at the resort work?

A: Check-In: Unlike U.S. hotels, every person in your travel party needs to check in. The resort will make a copy of each passport and tourist card. This is a federal requirement for them.

Wristbands: Upon check-in, each person with the Cancun Challenge group will receive a hotel wristband. This provides admission to all basketball games and full access to all restaurants and hotel amenities. DO NOT LOSE THE WRISTBAND AS IT WILL COST YOU $75 TO REPLACE!

Check-Out: A few days before you depart, be sure to connect with BonVoyage DMC, our transportation company. Their desk is located just outside of the Game Arena. They will give you an Airport Departure Notice that shows what time you will leave the hotel to return to Cancun Airport in time for your flight.

Check-out time is Noon. You will receive a check-out pass; you can request a later time. If you need to check out several hours before you plan to leave the hotel, the front desk will give you a pass allowing you to stay on the hotel property and eat and drink, even though your wristband has been removed and you have checked out.

Each person must go to the checkout desk to have their wristband removed (DO NOT REMOVE WRISTBAND ON YOUR OWN!)

Q: Do I need a passport to travel to Mexico?

A: Yes, passports are required to travel to Mexico, and the U.S. Government recommends that your passport is valid for at least six more months from your travel date. If you do not have a valid passport, you will need to act quickly.

Q: Are there tournament shirts to purchase onsite?

A: There will be Cancun Challenge commemorative t-shirts available for purchase at the game arena.

Q: Should I be concerned about food/water safety while at the resort?

A: The food at Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya is delicious, safe to eat and represents a variety of types, including American, Mexican, Asian, French, Italian, etc. The water is safe to drink, and bottled water is available at no extra cost.

Q: What food is available at the resort?

A: There are 9 different restaurants to choose from throughout your stay at the resort. You'll have access to everything from decadent steak at Toro and Asian Fusion at Zen, to authentic Mexican Yucatan cuisine at UMO for adult guests and snacks by the pool at Float. And of course, 24-hr room service whenever you want. Each restaurant will have designated times of specific services, and these legendary eats are an appetite for the good life. We also include concession food inside the game arena during games!

Q: Do I need to make reservations at the restaurants?

A: You do not need to make reservations at the restaurants, as all restaurants are first come first served (subject to change each year pending resort policies). The only exception is Zen for Hibachi, and reservations can be made at the hospitality desk in the lobby upon arrival.

Q: What if I just want to watch the games and not stay at the resort?

A: You can purchase game tickets separately; however, extra fees apply. Call Sarah Sullivan for details: 970-672-0533.
